My name is Yasmin and I'm a counsellor working in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire area.
You may have landed on this page because you are struggling with something right now and you'd like a bit of help figuring out what's going on for you. Alternatively, you may already have a pretty good idea but want some support in working out what to do about it. Whatever your needs or reasons for seeking out counselling, I would be very happy to have a conversation with you to find out more.
I currently work with adults (aged 18+) online (via Zoom) or over the telephone.
So what exactly is counselling?
Counselling is essentially a type of talking therapy - sometimes the words counselling, therapy and psychotherapy are used interchangeably.
Counselling sessions provide a safe and confidential space where you have the freedom to discuss your worries, concerns, past experiences, present difficulties and emotional experiences with somebody who is trained to listen and carefully attend to what you are saying. Whilst counsellors do not give direct advice and can't tell you the 'right way' of doing something, a counsellor can perhaps help you to better understand what is going on for you in your life, figure out where you feel stuck and where you might like things to change, help you work out what you want to do about those things and empower you to take action.
It is important to note that there are many, many different approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. There are also lots of different practitioners who practice in different ways.
